Work Description

This position will be a part of a staff of three planners along the beautiful environment of the most southerly Oregon Coast. Operating under the oversight of the Community Development Director, this position is an excellent opportunity for the journey level planner to expand his or her professional growth in a flexible work environment with friendly workmates and a breathtaking natural setting. The Senior Planner position will be responsible for processing administrative permits, preparing staff reports and providing presentations, administering the County Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance and Land Division Ordinance and other County codes related to land use. The position will also respond to public inquiries regarding County land use regulations and be responsible for code enforcement. This work will include meeting with project applicants, other County departments, state and federal agency representatives and citizens regarding land use matters and Code violations. Oversight of one planner position is also required. Work will be varied with opportunities to engage with multiple county entities and individuals.


Required for the position is Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field, plus three years’ of experience in city, county or regional planning that includes code enforcement or completion of college coursework or professional certification in planning and/or code enforcement and two years’ experience working with the public in areas that relate to planning, ordinance enforcement, or building and land use requirements. Oregon land use law knowledge and prior work with land use and code enforcement regulations and procedures is also required. The successful candidate will have strong research and writing ability, clear communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with little supervision and organize and supervise the work of others. Critical thinking, capacity and willingness to learn, strong verbal skills and the aptitude to establish effective and respectful working relationships is necessary for this position.
