Professional Development Committee Meetings
The Professional Development Committee (PDC) is an active committee of the Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association.  Over this last year the Committee has met monthly.  The current location for the Committee meetings is at the Cadillac Café in NE Portland at 7:30 am on the third Wednesday of each Month.

Certification Maintenance
Members of AICP are now required to maintain their certification through continuing education. Thirty-two hours of training are required every two years with the first two-year period starting January 1, 2008 and ending (with a grace period) April 30, 2010.   In addition to the courses offered by OAPA and the APA you may wish to check out various online providers.

Continuing Education
The PDC is responsible for providing opportunities for continuing education of OAPA members and to promote membership in OAPA and AICP.  Upcoming workshops include:

    Lots of good, free webcasts available to OAPA members as part of a multi-state coalition.
  • Oregon Urban and Community Forestry Conference, June 2-3, Noted urban forestry professor Dr. Ed Gilman from the University of Florida will be the featured speaker at the 2010 Oregon Urban and Community Forestry Conference, with the theme "Seed to City: The Journey of the Urban Tree". Dr. Gilman will be joined by other presenters from Oregon and the Pacific Northwest in this two day event, which will feature a Nursery Field Day at the J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. nursery in Boring, Oregon on Wednesday June 2nd and an indoor education session at the Oregon Garden Resort in Silverton, Oregon on Thursday June 3rd. A special early registration rate of $99 for both days is available for those registering prior to May 15th.   • New from APA - Digital Capture* of APA's National Planning Conference Visit APA for complete information. 

*In Digital Capture, PowerPoint presentations from individual speakers are synced with audio from their 2009 National Planning Conference sessions for viewing online. Users may earn CM credit by viewing approved sessions, and completing an acquisition of content survey at the conclusion. Digital capture is affordable and easy to use. At only $40 for each session, or the complete library for $995, a user can round out all necessary CM credits from the comfort of their own home, or office!

The Committee is responsible for making revenue through the workshops to cover expenses of the PDC and to assist the OAPA general budget. 
 
AICP
In addition, the PDC provides training for APA members interested in taking the AICP test.   The PDC hires a professional AICP trainer to make the presentation.  During the May 2007 exam, 8 members of OAPA passed the AICP exam with a 89% pass rate for the Chapter (compared to a 67% pass rate nationally).  
 
Ethics
We sponsor an annual workshop at the Oregon Planning Institute.  In addition the Committee has sent notices by email to OAPA members citing the AICP code of ethics webpage.

Communication
The Committee has several methods for promoting information relating to continuing members.  These include email notes on the Agenda updates, workshop brochures and the OPJ.
