The ideal candidate will need to be able to communicate clearly and exercise independent judgment while keeping the Department Director informed.

General Statement of Duties:
The principal function of an employee in this class is to plan and oversee the activities of the municipal planners and are responsible for staff, process and function and budget for their designated division. Responsibilities include supervising technical support and professional staff; providing advanced technical support on the most complex planning issues; providing staff support for Board, Commission, and the Council; serving on special committees; serving as liaison for intergovernmental issues; developing policies and procedures; overseeing studies and projects; managing and overseeing compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards. Incumbents supervise other planning staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training; and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.


Acceptable Experience and Training:
Bachelor’s degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Geography, or related field and four years of increasingly responsible municipal planning with some supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Depending on assignment, some positions may require:
• Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record;
• American Institute of Certified Planners Certification.
