OAPA Annual Planning Conference Call for Sessions Extended to Friday, April 12
The Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association (OAPA) invites submissions for session proposal(s) for the 2024 Annual Planning Conference, held October 16-18, 2024, at Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront in Portland, Oregon.
Navigating the Future: Planners Initiating Change – This year’s theme recognizes the importance of uniting communities, honoring Earth, and embracing innovation over the next 50 years. We will focus on our role as planners in guiding Oregon’s urban and rural communities through transformative changes in how we interact with the world around us. We’ll also highlight our cohort of students and emerging planners through a separate track aimed at supporting the launch of their planning careers.
Proposers are encouraged to propose sessions and mobile workshops that address any aspect of local and regional planning practice. The following topics will receive special focus at the conference:
- Uniting Communities
- Honoring Earth
- Embracing Innovation
- Emerging Planners
Mobile Workshops
Take your session outside! We would love to hear ideas for a mobile workshop in and around Portland.
Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association OAPA Offers DEI and Racial Justice Resource Guide and Racial Equity Glossary
Volunteers with OAPA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Group (DEIG) developed two new online resources in 2021 geared toward planners, allied professionals, and planning students. Reflected in the offerings is OAPA’s commitment to lead our equity work with race, with an emphasis on the intersectionality of anti-racist work. Learn more about the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Racial Justice Resource Guide and Racial Equity Glossary on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Resources page of this website.
Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association CAPP Aids in Wildfire Recovery
OAPA's Community Assistance Planning Program (CAPP) has responded to the dramatic wildfires that impacted communities across the state in September 2020. In partnership with Federal, State and local governments, OAPA volunteers are providing planning resources and assistance. In the Santiam Canyon in Marion and Linn Counties, and the Bear Creek Valley in Jackson County, CAPP teams are working to support and assess how communities can rebuild for resiliency. These CAPP projects will help to jump start longer-term recovery planning and projects to come.
As part of this effort, OAPA has provided a list of resources for communities to inform current and future wildfire recovery, rebuilding, and resilience planning efforts.
